Balangiga Massacre is an incident which occurred on September 28, 1901. Residents of Balangiga killed the American soldiers in an unforeseen attack using only their swords (tabak). The locals surprised the American troops at their breakfast table with an outraging attack using their bolos in retaliation for the destruction or confiscation of their food stocks, and their mission to free their fellowmen who had been held for forced labor and detained for days starving in congested conditions.

Teks is a popular Filipino card game played by children. The cards used in the game (called teks) are very small, about a quarter of the size of regular playing cards. The game relies heavily on betting which side will come up, and is decided by flicking the teks in the air. Some players slap the cards against each other in a high five for added effect. Players usually favor a specific card to use as the card they'll flip while all the other cards are basically act as betting currency. Children have devised numerous ways to affect the outcome of the flip. Some fold the card a certain way while some use the cards most softened by age.

  • September 19, 1829Joaquin Pardo de Tavera y Gomez was born in San Roque, Cavite. His father Julian Pardo de Tavera was originally from Toledo, Spain and was descended from a distinguished family that included a cardinal inquisitor and the Marques de Magahon. His mother was Juana Maria Gomez, also of Spanish descent. Joaquin was a reformist, liberal-minded lawyer and an early supporter of the Filipino cause in the 19th century. He is known primarily for his involvement in the events that lead to the Cavite Mutiny in 1872 and for unjustly being exile to the Marianas Islands for his beliefs.
  • September 19, 1862 – The Spanish colonial Royal Commissary is created to conduct extensive survey of conditions in the Philippines, particularly with regards to problems concerning local civil administration.
  • September 19, 1896 – Filipino mason and revolutionary Antonio San Agustin Salazar confessed that he knows Andres Bonifacio, the founder and leader of the Katipunan. He said that he was supposedly present during Bonifacio's initiation into the Masonic lodge “Taliba.”
  • September 19, 1900 – The Philippine Commission adopted a system of civil service wherein government service appointments are based on competitive test results.
  • September 19, 1947 - Emmet O'Neal arrived in Manila to assume the post of United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of the Philippines.
  • September 19, 2014Francisco Feliciano, National Artist for Music in 2014, died at the age of 73 because of cancer.
